Why GolfMARKER® Ball Markers are Used on the Putting Green

Why GolfMARKER® Ball Markes are used on the Putting Green

Under the golf Rule 20-1 Lifting and Marking, the position of the ball must be marked before it is lifted otherwise the player incurs a penalty of one stroke.

Note: The position of a ball to be lifted should be marked by placing a ball-marker, a small coin or other similar object immediately behind the ball

How to use GolfMARKER® Ball Markers on the Putting Green

Do not move or pick up the golf ball without first marking its position. The ball marker is placed directly behind the golf ball before the ball is lifted. Once the ball is correctly marked and lifted it can be cleaned. To replace the position of the ball on the green on its original spot, place the ball in front of the ball marker. Do not drop the ball, it must be correctly placed in front of the ball marker. Once the ball is correctly positioned carefully remove the ball marker.

What if the GolfMARKER® Ball Marker interfers with play of Another Player.

If the ball marker interferes with the play, stance or stroke of another player, it should be placed one or more clubhead-lengths to one side. The other player will generally advise which side they need the ball marker moved to.

How to Move the GolfMARKER® Ball Marker

To move the ball marker firstly identify an object/target to align the putter head, eg a tree, edge of bunker (non-movable object), etc. Place the toe of the putter directly behind the ball maker being careful not to move the ball marker, point the toe of the putter at the object/target you want to align to. Keeping the putter steady carefully remove the ball marker from the front of the putter head (toe) and place the ball marker directly behind the putter head (heel).  The putter can now be moved.  The ball marker has now been moved one putter head from its original position. Repeat the process to move the ball marker two putter heads.

How to Replace the GolfMARKER® Ball Marker to its Original Position

Once the other player has played you MUST REPLACE the ball marker to its original position as required by Rule 20.

Place the heel of the putter directly in front of the ball maker being careful not to move the ball marker, point the toe of the putter at the object/target you want to align to. Keeping the putter steady carefully remove the ball marker from the back of the putter head (heel) and place the ball marker directly in front the putter head (toe).  The putter can now be moved.  The ball marker has now been moved one putter head to its original position. If you have moved the original position of the ball marker two putter heads repeat the above process.

You can now Replace the Position of the Ball to its Original Position and Putt

To replace the position of the ball on the green on its original spot, place the ball in front of the ball marker. Do not drop the ball, it must be correctly placed in front of the ball marker. Once the ball is correctly positioned carefully remove the ball marker. You can now putt the ball.
